Contiki uses social media to send you abroad

Considering all the buzz recently, adventure travel seems to be the next big thing in travel. Travellers are no longer content to go on museum tours and see old churches all day. At least, the youth aren’t. And, as goes the youth, so goes Contiki Holidays, the tour company for 18-35 year olds.

Contiki has recently launched its #NoRegrets Adventure Challenge, an eight-week YouTube-based contest designed to showcase the crazier side of touring with the company. Each week, Contiki is launching a video featuring some of the destinations and activities it offers. Viewers must watch the most recent video to get the clue to that week’s question. You can win that week’s prize pack, and also be entered to win the grand prize — a Contiki 20-day European Impressions trip for two with airfare. A pretty sweet prize for watching a video.

This is the first I’ve heard of a company tapping into the YouTube generation at this level. Tim Deegan, of “MuchMusic VJ Search: The Series” fame, is the host of the weekly video series. They’ve also partnered with some of the most popular Canadian YouTube stars, including Nadine Sykora and the Sunday Fundayz, to bring you clips of each week’s featured destination.

It’ll be interesting to see if Contiki really can tap into the lucrative scene of young travellers through YouTube. Travel seems to have changed for this generation, with adrenaline and maximum fun essential to each trip abroad. Who knows? Maybe the pre-YouTube generation will jump in on the fun.
