Deals of the week: Special contest for Tripified readers

Getting an all-inclusive sun-and-sand vacation for free is pretty much the best deal possible, and until Feb. 22 Transat Holidays is giving away a holiday a day. You have to actually book a "Sun package" to have a crack at the prizes, but it's not like you're really losing anything by getting away from Canada in February. So consider the contest a win-win proposition.

On that note, I'm putting another contest atop this week's podium, because it's been designed especially for you:

GOLD: If you'd rather have a prize nailed down before booking anything, Transat is offering Tripified readers a chance to win a $100 travel voucher simply by describing their dream sun-and-sand vacation in the "comments" section below. (By way of example, mine is to Antigua, pictured at left, so I can personally count its 365 beaches -- one for each day of the year, as the slogan goes.) Check the Deals of the Week next Monday (Feb. 11) to see who won, as randomly chosen by yours truly.

MSN Canada's Facebook page is hosting a similar contest, so double your chances by doing both.

Msn-blog-panoramaSILVER: The alternative to getting away from Canada in February is to stick around and enjoy the world-class skiing. And until 7 p.m. Mountain Time today (that's 9 p.m. Eastern), B.C.'s Panorama Mountain Village (pictured at left) is running a "55 Hour Sale." Why 55 hours? Because all the sale offerings cost $55: a night, per person, in any size condo or town home (based on a two-night minimum stay); daily lift tickets; half-day group ski or snowboard lessons; daily day care; and two entrees and two desserts at Wildfire Rustic Grill or Chopper’s Landing. The resort-based heli-skiing operation is even getting in on the act with five runs costing $855. To book, call 1-888-776-7730.

BRONZE: Sticking with B.C., it's clear that the province -- aka the Left Coast -- likes to do things differently. Consider Family Day: Unlike most of Canada, which celebrates it on the third Monday in February, B.C. is taking its first crack at the holiday on the second Monday. And to mark the occasion, BC Ferries is offering free rides to children aged 11 and under on all its routes from Feb. 8 though Feb. 11. Kids must be accompanied by at least one adult. To book, call 1-888-BCFERRY.
