A great winter vacation idea in Canada

Looking to take your family somewhere where you can have as much fun as the kids? And, no, I’m not suggesting a resort in Cuba or Mexico, where you shunt the kids off to the kids’ club and meet up for meals. I’m talking about the elusive fun-for-the-whole-family vacation, where parents aren’t just happy because their children are happy. The adults get to have fun, too.

Big White is for the family that prefers a ton of choices and new experiences to last at least a week. With 118 runs and 16 lifts, there’s a lot to keep all levels of skiiers/snowboarders busy. East coasters should be wary, though, as the beginner slopes could easily be intermediate runs back home.

Restaurants on the property are a mix of resort-owned operations and private establishments. Check out Globe Cafe & Tapas Bar for a unique night out with your family. The reasonably priced tapas are delicious and the décor creates the perfect mood for a slightly upscale family meal.

If you’re looking to splash out on a meal, head to Kettle Valley Steakhouse. The menu is surprisingly exciting for both meat eaters and vegetarians. And the curated wine list offers the best of the Okanagan.

The resort also includes some non-ski winter activities. There’s an 18 metre ice climbing wall made out of four telephone poles and maintained with a lot of water hoses. Run by AMGA (American Mountain Guides Association) Certified Guide Jim Ongena and avid climber Toni Clark, customers can get a taste for a sport that few get to try.

Big White also boasts Canada’s highest skating rink, dog sledding tours and snowmobiling. And, yes, there is a daycare centre. But, with so much that families can do together, this might be the one time when everyone wants to come along.
